Linda's Judging Career

Back to homepage

Having entered the breed in 1976 it was 1981 before I entered the ring as a judge. I officiated at numerous open and limit level shows before being given my first club show, this was for the Chow Chow Club of Scotland in 1986, numbers were much greater then and for 19 classes at a limit show exhibitors rewarded me with 91 entries and the following year again I received an excellent entry of 119 over 19 classes at the Chinese Chow Club once again at a limited show.

I awarded CC's for the first time in 1989 at Paignton and District Fanciers after being in the breed for 13 years, my top winners were truly good dogs the CC winners were Ch Towmena Impudent Miss (BOB) and Ch Dawnandas Don-Juan, with Ch Lechan Damien and Ch Tanlap Tapestry winning the Res CC's, B Puppy going to Bosleigh Bumble Bee who later became a champion. The Chinese Chow Club also gave me my first club Championship show in 1990 when I was invited to do bitches, I still remember I had a wonderful entry of 73 making 96 entries ; alas those great days have gone.

I consider being asked by your peers to judge at breed club championship shows to be one of the highest accolades and I have been lucky enough to have been asked by the Northern Counties Chow Chow Club, The North Eastern Chow Chow Club, The Midland Chow Chow Club, The West of Eng Chow Chow Club, the Chinese Chow Chow Club and the National Chow Chow Club to whom I thank very much. In 2002 the Ulster Chow Chow Club asked me to judge their Top Utility Competition which was a very enjoyable day.

My judging has also taken me overseas and I have officiated in Belgium, Denmark and Norway at breed club shows where I received a warm welcome and excellent hospitality was extended.

My next appointment fills me with great excitement as I have been asked to judge the breed at Crufts in 2011, this will be a wonderful hilight in my judging career and involvement for what seems an age in this wonderful breed.
